Today Little Dude is off on a field trip.  One of the requirements for said trip is a sack lunch.  Now, my son has both a Spider-Man and a Superman lunch box, but the note seemed to stress something “disposable.”  Thus I asked the boy if he’d like a picture on his lunch sack, to which I received an enthusiastic “YES!”

Since the Little Man has been rather engrossed with Scooby-Doo lately, I was expecting to have to crib from one of his coloring books.  No, he actually wanted the Man of Steel himself.   So, this is what he took to school:

super_lunch

Complete with peanut butter sandwich, graham crackers and a juice box.  Done in Sharpie and Crayola, even!  My apologies to Tim Sale for borrowing from his cover for A Superman for All Seasons.

It is perhaps one of worst curses imaginable…  while I would not exactly describe myself as an “early riser” I am certainly capable and called upon to do so.  Unfortunately, the rest of my family appears to be stalwart night owls and most definitely NOT morning people.

Yes, I’m looking at YOU, Little Dude.

Anyway, here’s some coloring I ended up playing around with the other day, with some inspiration and direction from kiddo.

Yay me.

On December 22 of 2002, after 16 hours of labor, my wife gave birth to a small boy of 5 lbs 14.5 ozs and 19″.  I knew he was destined to be the end of me since he began experiencing respiratory problems shortly after birth due to a heart valve not closing properly.  After nine days at UK’s NICU, he came home for the New Year.

The Little Man hasn’t cared much for talking to that Infamous Elf of the Northern Wastes the last couple years, but apparently the school system made it clear that if you talk to the Rotund One, presents appear.

The funny thing being, this photo was taken on the Little Dude’s second visit.  The first time he saw this exact same Santa, he told The Wife and I in no uncertain terms “That’s not Santa.”  Perhaps Mr. Fluffy (depicted) or his mercenary heart convinced him otherwise.

Yesterday was a big day.

The wife and I took Little Dude to get his pre-kindergarten eye exam.  Shocking beyond belief is that the progeny of two extremely near-sighted people has almost perfect vision.  Not so shocking was that Little Dude messed with the heads of everyone trying to evaluate his vision by deliberately misnaming the images he was supposed to identify.  And then giggling about it.

Afterward, it was my priviledge to drop the wee man off at my mom’s where he would spend the next couple days.  Presumably the last trip he gets to take for a long while once school starts.  He was delighted to see Grandma Cindy.  Just as I was about to leave, however, I discovered a rather large tick hidden in his hair.

No, not this:

The other kind.  Needless to say, a great deal of sturm und drang went into removing the thing… and a small piece of Little Dude’s scalp with it, it had attached itself so tightly.  The boy came through the ordeal like a champ and hopefully my paranoid perusal of the CDC’s Lyme disease pages will be for nothing.

Of course the boy was completely unphased by the whole thing such that when I loudly proclaimed I’d earned a hug for “removing a parasite from your head” he allowed me to give him a hug… and then tried to place the bite mark in my face.

I enjoyed my week away from work and Little Dude enough to pretty much drop most of my interweb hobbies and some-such. As it is, I got lots done but not nearly enough for what I could have gotten accomplished. I think I got some more pages of the Snow White and Rose Red story inked, but not scanned.

I also did a 5-hour graphic short story, fusing the whole Pygmalion and Galatea myth with something I was hoping was very Frankenstein-ish. I was thinking about pursuing a couple different directions with it, but I think I picked a nice place to end it.

Go here to see it!

Discussions with the Wif have pulling me in the direction of starting a website for all my original art and graphic stories and not any of the fan-stuff. Not that I wouldn't have the occassional Batman or Shinji picture up, but that wouldn't be the main thrust of the site, ya know? I have one name already in mind (no, I'll reserve posting it so that the interweb demons do not snatch it from my grasp), but I'm open to suggestions.

Though I have my doubts, My Better Half assures me I'd be able to update the site about 3 times a week. And I do like the idea of eventually publishing/printing something like an anthology of all my little myth/fairytale stories. So sometime after the tax refund comes in and the credit cards are paid down/off a bit, I'll look into getting that up and running.

And finally... Little Dude apparently LOVES cupcakes. So much so that ingesting through his mouth is not fast enough, he must smear it all over his face to fully enjoy its cupcakey goodness.

So, dropping Kiddo at Grandma Cindy's this afternoon.  He was pretty occupied with his... er, cousin and Hot Wheels so that was okay.  My mom was doing pretty well and my youngest brother is taking the ACTs and SATs seriously (finally!) so that's all good news.

I'm hoping The Wif's birthday gift arrives tomorrow, though it appears unlikely.  2-day Delivery MY ASS.  Oh well, tomorrow night will consist of SuRPrisE! Theatre, so that will be interesting as well.

And hey!  Yet Another Page Inked! )

Ugh.

Feel kinda crappy.
Little Dude dumped out the remainder of a baby powder bottle onto his floor (think "A White Christmas" here people).
And I still need to fix the goddamned water heater pipes.

But hey, I got the first page of the comic scanned.
Lookee. )

Boo-yah.

Watching Little Dude fight to stay awake through the nightly reading of One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish and finally start snoring before his eyes close on the Nook Hook Cook Book page. That. Is. Awesome.

Just a quick update before bed:

The Wif got her new laptop today (UPS is like molasses here, I swear) and we had many a trial and tribulation with trying to get it to work on the home network. Ultimately, I updated the router's firmware (v1 -> v4) and let it broadcast the SSID. Now all things are groovy with Ne's laptop. Thank god because...

Laptop refresh for SB didn't go as smoothly as planned, partly due to the somewhat bent wireless card crapping out on me after the Win2K install. Managed to get some software on it, but unfortunately none of the windows updates.

Desktop refresh for mom didn't go as smoothly as planned, largely because Micro$oft's update servers suddenly forgot what time it was. Whee. Did manage to get SP4 and the software on it, though. Should be ready for her when I pick up Little Dude tomorrow.

Speaking of the Little Dude, this will be the first time I've seen him (other than that half hour on Monday) in over a week. A week! Good lord! I feel like I've been managing without a small hyperactive appendage all week. Hopefully there will be much cuteness and many stories from Grandma Cindy's for me tomorrow morning. ^_^

Well, maybe not so much badgered as reminded I have a weblog.

So, what's been going on lately?  Not a whole lot, to be truthful.  Was feeling rather blah earlier today, so the Wif took care of Little Dude while I had some me time this morning.  It was mostly me vegging out in bed and watching the first disc on the Firefly box set (graciously loaned to us by [livejournal.com profile] zabasity).  Now that I finally got to see it, I really enjoyed watching the Sci-Fi Western.  Normally, unless something's on the HBO OnDemand list, I don't get to see it TV episodes in order unless I download them on the internet (as I did with Joan of Arcadia's first season, JLU and a couple other shows).

Also, I've been spending some time learning the fine subtleties of burning DVDs of various filetypes and persuasions.  Particularly converting a subtitled version of Final Fantasy: Advent Children for Ethan.  It's mostly just a bunch of processor time and waiting for the programs to write their 4Gb files.  Oy.  And after watching the damn thing the audio started to drift from matching the video.  Oh well.  The movie, by the way, is a little short on plot but long on the computer-generated fight scenes.

Anything else cool happen lately?

Well, Little Dude's been talking a lot more, really starting to string words together for sentences and stuff.  He's starting to identify the things he wants and understand some of the boundaries we put on him.  Note the usage of the word "some."

Other than that, things have been pretty quiet on the creative front.  Still practicing my inking.  Still trying to cough up a long enough string of ideas.  Same old same old.

Ah, work.  Where I sit and wrestle with stomach pain.  Don't know what it is, since it's too high to be digestive problems, but seems to low to be indigestion.  Grr.

The past couple days have been great, though.  Little Dude got his new hearing aid molds and seems to be taking to them quite well.  He's also been identifying and repeating his ABC's, which is so neat.  It seems like he's broken through that "Terrible Two" phase and is maturing and learning some of his boundaries.  He'll even say "peez!" for some of his snacks if we prompt him.

Also got to watch a bunch of movies the past couple days.

And now, back to work and stomach pain!

My new work laptop is SWEET!

ThinkPad with 1Ghz P4, 1Gb of ram, and 75Gb of harddrive space.  Built-in ethernet and wireless adapters, DVD/CD-WR drive and winxp.  Hee hee hee!  It's like having my new desktop with me at work!  All it needs now is K-Lite and Adobe Photoshop on it and it will just about be my desktop.

And it rained today!  Whoo hoo!  Never thought I'd be so excited about rain...

In Kiddo News, the Little Dude had an AMAZING day with the OT.  He was running around, speaking and popping bubbles like a fiend.  A fiend I say!  We had lots of fun and good words this morning before I slithered off into my shadowy cave to catch a few hours' sleep.

Did I mention how awesome my new laptop is?  Because it is, ya know.  Awesome, that is.  Ya know.

Wahoo.

This past weekend was pretty cool.  Mom was kind enough to babysit (e.i. spoil rotten) Little Dude for the weekend, leaving The Wif and I to our own devilish devices...  namely chatting and sleeping in.  I know, ooooh, livin' la vida loca, right?

Anyway, in the totally awesome column, the husband of a friend of [livejournal.com profile] ne_today  gave me an old workstation PC of his and an LCD monitor.  She is a lovely Dell Precision 330 1.5GHz, 512Mb of RAM, 40 Gb HDD, winxp (heheheh) sportin' machine.  And I'm grateful that [livejournal.com profile] ne_today  hasn't brained me with something blunt and heavy for sneaking away to tinker with it from time to time.  ^_^

And although Little Dude seems to be letting his 2001-evil-obelisk side show a little more (last Wednesday, he tried to brain a playmate for usurping "mah boat"), he's been using more and more words.  He has also learned how to climb out of his crib so that he's bound by only a child-proof cap over his doorknob.  This latter is largely to discourage him from breaking out of his room willy-nilly (particularly when we're asleep).

Seems like there's still more rumor and less fact about my "promotion" but everyone seems to be of the opinion that I've got it.  I just wish they'd come up with a plan before deciding things arbitrarily.

Oh well.  Tonight's been a little crazy, but not so bad overall.  I even made Slightly-Deformed-Origami-Gamera !

On the good side:
Little Dude likes sweet potato fries (with a generous amount of ketsup) as a substitue for regular kill-yo-ass-eventually fries. Excellent.

On the bad side:
He'd probably eat more of them were the sweet potato itself not tough like some kind of jerkied spud.

Oh well, trial and error. At least he's eating something vegetable-like.

Gah! So, I was like totally elated that I'd finally figured out a workable floorplan for the setting of the Batman mini-comic-thingy. Then, because Little Dude had been fairly quiet for a while, I decided to peek into his room.

I shouldn't have done that. It was foolish. Foolfardy. Making of me a gianourmous fool.

Because Little Dude had not only had his poo, as I suspected he might have. Oh no. He had managed to hard pack into the floor (thank the gods for hardwood floors!) until it was like a layer of friggin' asphalt and I had to spend a good 20 - 30 minutes scrubbing the floor just to get most of it up. It still smells in there, so there will undoubtedly required another go-over with a better mop.

ARGH.

Since there was little sleep had this afternoon and even less last night, we now come to the part of our evening wherein I attempt to keep from crashing and passing out atop my keyboard. I blame both 'Supersize Me' and the latest Harry Potter book.

Little Dude did very well in both Speech Therapy and Language Group, repeating words and doing stuff spontaneously. Apparently he said "cookie" quite clearly, and I know he was quite expressive during Speech.

I had a funny idea the other day: CephaloSquad, Octo-Police!

It was funnier yesterday... regardless, my origami Godzilla watches over me.

Yesterday was a day full of all kinds of accomplishment.

Awesome defines me. )

Today, however, feels like a lounge around and do nothing because tomorrow's a suck-ass work day again.  This could be due in part to Little Dude waking my ass up at around 7:30 this morning and proceeding to be an adorable buttmunch.  Curiously, when pulling graphic novels off my bookshelf, his favorite seems to be "Batman: Son of the Demon."  Coincidence?  I think not.

And now...  a nap, perhaps?
